Step 1:
Flip the controller over and remove the back cover. To remove the back cover simply slide the tab at the bottom of the controller.

Step 2:
Remove the 7 screws located on the back of the controller. There are 4 located on the outside, and 3 hidden under the sticker.
Here are the locations of the three hidden screws
Step 3:
You are now free to carefully pry the controller apart. Keep an eye out for the battery release buttons; they tend to fall out during disassembly.

Step 4:
You will be presented with this. There are 6 screws to unscrew here.

Step 5:
Carefully lift the main board of the controller. You can undo the ribbon cables by gently pulling them out from the main board. There will be two more screws to release the touchpad assemblies from the front shell of the controller.
Make sure to be gentile during this step. Ribbon cables are delicate.
After this step you will now have access to the buttons on the front of the controller.
Step 6:
Unscrew the final two screws holding the touchpad on, slide the top USB frame upwards and call it a day. Congrats, you've successfully taken the steam controller apart!
